District of Columbia Nu Zeta Chapter Supports Early-Career Educators
Looking for ways to participate in the Supporting Early-Career Educators (SEE) project? Even if the local school district does not allow non-faculty to volunteer in the school? A DKG presence can provide critical support to both the community schools and educators; and DKG member support can make a phenomenal difference toward the success of an early-career educator. The International SEE project defines “early-career educator” as an educator who has been teaching 5 years or less and includes both members and non-members, as well as both women and men.
Nu Zeta Chapter in the DC State Organization provides support for early-career educators through phone calls, visits and other practical ways. However, the chapter members also provide resources, ideas and information through a monthly newsletter throughout the school year. In addition to promoting the Society with bits of information about DKG, the newsletters include book reviews, links to online educational resources, technology tips, lesson ideas, information about events and even themes that could be celebrated during the month. The information is practical, the tips are helpful, the lessons are relevant and many are classroom-ready.
The DKG mission and vision statements both remind members to promote excellence in education and support professional growth. What better way to promote excellence in education than by insuring that these early-career educators will realize their full potential and, thus, insure the future of the education profession?
